The idea of an outer belt expressway running through Kane County is creating strong opinions on both sides of the
issue, and communities of every size are weighing in with opinions of their own.
Campton Township will soon be joining those communities, as its Board of Trustees decided Tuesday night to vote
on a resolution about the expressway at its next meeting, to be held next month.
The expressway, proposed by Yorkville Republican and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, would connect interstates
80 and 90 by running north to south through Kane County, west of the Tri-Cities. Aurora's City Council recently
passed a resolution in favor of the expressway, and asked surrounding communities for their support. Campton Township
was one of those communities, but trustees held off on making an official resolution Tuesday night.
That didn't stop one trustee from making his feelings known, however.
"I don't agree with them," said Trustee John Kupar.
Trustee Kathleen Judy said she thought the board should take an official stance on the expressway, but should take
the time to research the project and come to an informed decision.
Kane County recently passed its own resolution opposing the alignment being proposed for the expressway, which
runs through Kaneland and Big Rock Township. The county's resolution also asks IDOT to consider thecounty's comprehensive
2020 Plan before deciding where the expressway will go.
IDOT will collect the public's comments on the proposed expressway from
communities until Feb. 11.
