WHEREAS, it appears that IDOT is intent on siting a north-south
freeway through Kendall County, and
WHEREAS, the proposed alignment bisets the county through a primarily
agricultural area, as identified by the Kendall County Land Use
Resource Management Plan, and
WHEREAS, alternative alignments which promote in-fill and meet the
goals of the County Land Use Plan need further discussion and study,
and
WHEREAS, the public has had, and apparently will have, only one
official opportunity to review the details of the proposed alignment,
and
WHEREAS, the IDOT comment period is only thirty days, most of which
is within the traditional holiday celebrations of the majority of
Kendall County residents, and
WHEREAS, hundreds of area residents attended the public meeting on
December 11 and want to try to gain more information,
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Kendall County Board requests IDOT
to extend the public comment period to 60 days and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that IDOT actively assess alternative
alignments which are more compatible with the county's Land Use Plan,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that regardless of the alignment, IDOT
include local officials and residents in the planning of the
corridor's structural and nature resource protection planning
efforts.
